NAMESAKE
I remember
The screen door
never locked
A wondrous kitchen
everyone talked
Wood hewn table
many pine chairs
Adam Hall stove
noisy stairs. I remember
Wild roses
by the front gate
Run to the creek
but do not be late
Climb up the apple tree
say hello to the hound
Count the shirts on the clothesline
Sons abound. I remember
The big barn
Quiet and dank
Snorts from the horses
perfectly ranked
Climb to the mower
lie in the hay
Quietly contemplate
the peace of the day. I remember
Her courage
surviving what came
on the path taken
heart of Jake Stewart's domain
Duties decried
by the time of the year
Busy with all of the things
she held dear. I remember
The smells
of association
The heartbeat
of anticipation
Twinkling blue eyes
said come sit for awhile
"Gid day Jenny Lind"
made a shy girl smile.
The tin on the table
sugar cookies for tea
How special it felt
just my "Nanny" and me.
