September 01. Paul holds a BA, University of Ottawa,
1980, Bachelor of Theology, McGill University, 1984 and
a Master of Divinity, United Theological College, McGill

the United Church of Canada and has over twenty years
experience in active ministry. This includes a variety

As our Voluntary Associate Minister, Andy is
officially responsible for pastoral care. He also
volunteers to serve the Men’s Ministry through the
monthly Men’s Fellowship Breakfast. Andy’s favourite
scripture is Micha 6:8, “He has showed you, O man, what
is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do
justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with
your God?”
Andy grew up in New Liskeard, and moved to Pembroke
as a teacher in the mid-1950s. He first attended the
Community Church in 1974, when he moved to Deep River to
be the Vice Principal of Morison School. In 1977, he
went into Ministry as a candidate for Ministry from Deep
River Community Church. He was ordained in May, 1981,
and served in Chalk River, Kingston, Coe Hill and
Toronto, before retiring in 1999.
Andy lives in Deep River with his wife, Laurene. They
have three children and eight grandchildren. He enjoys
golfing, and admits to loving “to laugh, wear outrageous
comical ties and eat homemade butterscotch pie”. |

Mary grew up in Deep River and has had a life-time
association with our church - she attended Sunday School and
was married in Deep River Community Church. She started
playing the Community Church organ as a teenager, became
more and more involved in organ music as an adult, and
eventually served six years as Music Director. A little over
10 years ago, she decided to take a small break from these
responsibilities, but remained involved as occasional
organist. Then last year she became Church Organist again.
Mary has always been involved in church work in many ways,
chairing the worship committee for several years, and
helping in organizing many of the special church services.
Mary’s family includes her husband, Barrie, and two grown
children and now, grandchildren. Now retired from music
teaching, she is free to indulge in her love of skiing,
cycling, canoeing and swimming. Her favourite scriptures
include Psalm 98 and Psalm 100: “Make a joyful noise unto
the LORD, all ye lands”.

As the Church Secretary, Bea is responsible for the
daily co-ordination of church activities and compiling
the weekly service bulletin, but she gets the most joy
out of interacting with church members and visitors. She
joined Deep River Community Church in 1984, and has been
actively involved in the Sunday School, Women’s Circle
and Annual Bazaar and Tea. One of her favourite hymns is
“Be Thou My Vision”.
Bea has lived in Deep River for 33 years with her
husband Jim. She has one son, married and living in
Hamilton, and one daughter and three grandchildren also
living in Deep River. She happily spends a good deal of
her time chauffeuring grandchildren to their many
activities. |
