Clubs and Associations
| Allumette Flying Club | The club provides affordable recreational flying for pilots with a minimum of a valid private pilots license and currency on aircraft type used by the club, presently a Cessna 150. The club aircraft is based at the Rolph Airstrip just west of Deep River. |
| Astronomy Club | The Astronomy Club is an infromal collection of stargazers who gather together when significant astronomical happenings occur. Some of their regular outings include: observing the Perseids metoer shower on August 12, the Leonids around November 14. They usually have a couple of public star nights on which they share their equipment and knowledge with the public. |

| Badminton Club | The Deep River Badminton Club (DRBC) is part of the Upper Ottawa Valley badminton community, offering both recreational and competitive play for ages 8 to 108. It meets Tuesdays and Fridays in the double gym of Mackenzie High School, from mid September to the end of April. Juniors play from 6:00-8:00 pm and adults play from 8:00-10:00 pm. The club offers instruction at all levels. A junior program, (ages 8-19) that is open to the community, hosts beginner and advanced clinics with qualified coaches, and is affiliated with the Ontario Badminton Association. As part of the Upper Ottawa Valley badminton community, we participate and take turns hosting the three main tournaments of the season. The DRBC actively assists the local schools in setting up their school teams for the County tournaments. Registration will take place on Community Registration Day in September as well as during the Open House in October. New members can join anytime during the season. Fees are Adults-$65, Family-$130, High School Juniors-$35, and Pre-High School Juniors-$20. |
| Ballet Club | The Deep River Ballet Club offers various levels of ballet instruction for boys and girls 4 years and older as well as teens and adults. Classes follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus and beginners are most welcome. The club runs two sessions: Fall (Sept to Dec) and Winter (Jan to May). Students have the opportunity to do exams and perform in a year-end recital. Cost varies according to class duration but is typically approx. $11 per hour of instruction. Students can purchase new and used uniforms from the Club. Parents are expected to volunteer in some capacity throughout the year, either by serving on the board or helping with exams or the recital. | Beta Sigma Phi | Beta Sigma Phi is a 70 year old international organization open to women of any age, nationality or educational background. For more than 10 years two chapters in Deep River have been contributing to the community as well as offering its members the sisterhood of a sorority and theopportunity to share ideas through a variety of programs at each twice monthly meeting. | Bowling Club | The Bowling Clubs are teams of people who bowl in town and have a competition at the end of the year. The teams meet from Sept-May and bowl on specific nights. Monday afternoons it's ladies and evenings it's men. Tuesday evenings it's ladies. Wednesday there is a mixed league at night. To sign up, just show up the night you want to bowl. The fee is $5-10. |

| Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS) | New developments in science and technology are featured at informative seminars and lectures sponsored by CNS in the Deep River community from September to June. Seminars take place at the JL Gray Centre, Deep River at 8:00pm with refreshments. All are welcome. The local branch also supports education initiatives in Renfrew County. | Canadian Power & Sail Squadron | The Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons (CPS) is an organization of recreational boating enthusiasts dedicated to fostering and promoting safe and responsible boating through training and related activities. The Oiseau Rock Squadron is part of CPS and is based in the Deep River-Petawawa-Pembroke area. The Squadron comprises about 90 members and regularly offers courses in boating, piloting, seamanship and other topics of interest to the boater. The Squadron also offer the Canadian Coast Guard accredited “Boat Pro” course and exam, the successful completion of which qualifies the candidate for the CCG Pleasure Craft Operator Card.email |
| Canadian Red Cross Society | The Canadian Red Cross is an organization dedicated to fun and fitness. Its members meet during fall, winter and spring and is for those 50 and over. The registration date is to be announced, and there are no fees. |
| CANDU Swim Club | Deep River's Candu Swim Club promotes the development of kids from age 6 and up into strong swimmers. The club offers several levels of swimming training programs. New young swimmers start off in the “I Can Swim” program which is designed to take a weak swimmer and develop their strokes. The “I Can Swim Fast” program offers the technically developed swimmer the opportunity to enhance their endurance and master the skills needed to be a strong swimmer. Fitness and competitive streaming allow the kids to participate at a level of comfort suited to their goals and they have an option of switching streams. The club offers fun and challenging meets both at home and out of town. Kids who are interested in join the club can register at Community Registration Day in September for the first session which runs from Sept to late Dec. Fees depend on how many swims a week (2-4 times available). |
| Children's Junction Daycare | An integrated licensed child care service, they care for children aged 18 months to 12 years year round. They offer programs for toddlers (18mths to 2 1/2), pre-schoolers (2 1/2 to 4), Kindergarten (4-5), and school age (6-12). They are open 5 days a week, 7:30am to 5:30pm, and provide a snack and lunch. Family discounts are offered, as well as daily rates. Toilet training is not necessary. |
| Chinese Association | The primary goal of the Chinese Association is to preserve and promote traditional Chinese culture and language. All Canadians of every walk and stride is welcome to join the Assocition. | Co-operative Nursery School | The Deep River Co-operative Nursery School provides a stimulating half day program for pre-school children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years old. It is located at Mackenzie High School and is in operation from Sept. to May. Although Registration day is in June, registrations are accepted at any time. The fee for two sessions a week is $60.00 a month. |
| Cross Country Ski Club | The DRXC is a volunteer group that promotes cross country skiing in the Deep River area and supports the National and Provincial programs. Registration is in November.email |
| Cross Country Ski Tours | Adults can meet up on Wednesday afternoons during the winter months to do some leisurely cross country skiing around the valley for free. |
| Curling & Squash Club | The DRCSC is a family oriented, dual sport club with eager participation from the junior level to seniors. Fees permit full participation on both sports and there are several competitions planned each year for all age groups. Full membership is $420 (unlimited curling and squash privileges with squash only $240. There is a special rate for new full members of

| Deep River & Area Minor Hockey Association | The Deep River & Area Minor Hockey Association welcomes both boys and girls from ages 4-17. We offer full programs beginning with Initiation and progressing through Novice, Atom, Peewee, Bantam, and Midget. Players are welcome to join at any level. The season runs from September to March. A registration day is held in July, and a second one at Community Registration night in September, or you may register via the website.email |

| Deep River Community Association Inc. | The Deep River Community Association Inc, performs an important function as the corporate umbrella under which member clubs can attain the equivalence of legal stature. It carries a liability insurance policy that protects the executives and volunteers of the member clubs. The DRCA makes grants and low-interest loans to member clubs to assist in capital expenditures. The DRCA is the owner/publisher of the North Renfrew Times - our community newspaper. And the DRCA does many things to "promote the welfare of the residents" such as sponsoring scholarships, providing a grand piano for concerts and stage productions, organizing all candidates meetings at election time, organizing and/or supporting special events like town anniversary celebrations and Canada Day celebrations. | Deep River Dames | Women's recreational hockey. This club was started by two local women, their goal was to get enough interest to play recreational hockey with just women. The inaugural year, 1998, saw about 20 women hit the ice at the Deep River Arena. Gradually the numbers grew, peaking at about 70 women, some playing 3 times a week. We have now leveled off at about 50 members, but still maintain 3 weekly ice times. If you've never played hockey before but have wanted to try it we encourage new members with clinics during the year. So if you are 16 or older come out and try, we have players of every skill level. The Dames also sponsor an annual bursary at the local high school.email |
| Deep River Gymnastics Club | The Deep River Gymnastics Club offers programs for boys and girls ages 3 1/2 to 12 years which stress fun, fitness and fundamentals of gymnastics. | Deep River Karate Club | The Karate Club has been teaching adult and junior students for 30 years. We teach both self-defense and competitive karate in safe and fun environment, learning and performing basic blocks, kicks and strikes until they become reactive movements. Superior physical fitness is achieved through cardiovascular exercises, flexibility and strength development. Classes are held Mondays, and Thursdays in the Morison School(Avon Rd.): 6:30 to 8:30pm. | Deep River Mixed 3-Pitch League | The Deep River Mixed 3-Pitch League is for male and female ball players 16 years of age and older. Ball is played at Grouse Park from late May to the end of September. Interested individuals should contact Steve Bird for more information. |

| Deep River Science Academy | The Science Academy is a 6 week summer science school designed to give students, who have a interest and an aptitude in science, an opportunity to participate in real science research. There are three campuses across Canada: Fredericton, NB, Deep River, ON, Pinawa, MAN, and Kelowna, BC. The students must have a minimum of grade 10 science or the equivalent from another province. | First Deep River Scouts | Scouts Canada, 1st Deep River Group, seeks to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual potential. The 1st Deep River Group makes extensive use of the abundant and easily accessible outdoor assets of this area. Typical activities include outdoor and environmental activities, citizenship, and community service, leadership, and personal development. The different groups meet from September through to May. | Deep River Skating Club | The Deep River Skating Club offers all levels of skating instruction from the beginner level to adult skating. Programs are offered to children as young as 3 or 4 years. The CANSKATE program is "the" learn to skate program for all Canadians, leading to hockey, ringette and figure skating. The STARSKATE program follows the test program sanctioned by Skate Canada in the disciplines of Freeskate, Dance and Skating Skills. Lessons are offered at the Intermediate and Senior Level, depending on tests completed. The Adult program is available to all levels of adult skaters, from beginner to experienced. | Deep River Symphony Orchestra | The DRSO is a full symphony orchestra that performs 4 programs per year in Deep River and the upper valley under the musical direction of Peter Moris.They perform orchestral music using local people for the benefit of the community. | Deep River Yacht & Tennis Club | The Deep River Yacht & Tennis Club offers for adults and juniors, tennis, sailing and rowing instruction and activities as well as a full social calendar. | Duplicate Bridge Club | Registered ACBL duplicate bridge club. One open session a week at 7:15pm on Wednesday in the program room at the Deep River Public Library from Sept. to May. The club is not active during the summer. Pay as you play, $4 a person per session. |
| Family Enrichment Network (FEN) | FEN offers support to families in North Renfrew. Sessions in Deep River are held at Mackenzie High School every Monday to Thursday from 8:15 to 11:45 am and 12:30 to 3:30 pm, and Fridays from 8:45 to 11:45 am. Sessions include drop-in, playgrounds, parenting courses, workshops and resource library. FEN operates year round and is for families with children of all ages. | Fencing Club | Fencing is an exciting, unusual and challenging sport. Our recreational club is run by volunteers, who love the sport. Learning to fence develops technical skills, timing, coordination, precision and concentration. Best of all fencing is fun. All beginners are very welcome. Bring a friend! We meet each Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Mackenzie High School Small Gym. We meet weekly throughout the school year. The 2009/10 season fee is $85.00. You can sign up for the fall session only for $50.00. This covers individual and club membership in the Ontario Fencing Association, and use of club equipment masks, jackets and foils. Our program includes a group lesson and warm up from 7:00- 8:00, followed by supervised fencing, and individual lessons. Each fencer should wear indoor running shoes (non marking), long comfortable pants, and a light short sleeve shirt. A light glove is recommended to protect your fencing hand. If you have your own fencing equipment, please bring it. We recommend that children be at least ten years of age (Grade 5) to participate without parental assistance. We hold club round robin tournaments and we travel to Ottawa for the Dry Foil Circuit. | Fitness for Seniors | Exercises for men and women 55 years and older that include stretches, low-impact aerobics, weights and dance. The classes begin Sept. 13 until Apr., every Monday and Thursday at the Deep River Library from 1-2pm. Come whenever you feel like it, and there is no fee. |
| 49'ers Club | Deep River and Area Seniors gather together every Tuesday afternoon in the Christian Education Centre (behind the Community Church) and enjoy friendship and laughter. While Euchre isthe most popoular game played, several others such as Scrabble, Romoli, etc. are also enjoyed. Goodies are served! Special dinners celebrate several occasions during the year. | Girl Guides | An organization for girls and women ages 5 and up. Girl Guides provides fun, adventure, learning, skills and community service while giving girls the opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork skills, respect for themselves and others, independence, an interest in a broad spectrum of activities, and respect for their own communities and environment. Meets from September to June, with the possibility of summer activities. Sparks 5-6, Brownies 7-9, Guides 9-12, Pathfinders 12-15 and Seniors Branches 15-18. Fee is $125.00 for the year plus weekly dues but no girl will be excluded due to financial need. Adult women leaders are always welcome to join. | Horticultural Society | Deep River Horticultural Society (est. 1947). Annual door-to-door membership campaign canvass results in over 700 members. Members involved in Town beautification projects -- designing and providing 46 hanging baskets and 14 planters in the downtown core. Planting and maintaining gardens at local schools, hospital, long term care centre, St. Mary's Home, Welcome Signs, Mountainview Cresent gardens. Offers a Youth Program, a Tool Loan Service, and array of excellent speakers at monthly meetings. community garden lots, workshops, flower and vegetable show. Grows produce for the local food bank. | Junior Music Club | The Junior Music Club provides all young musicians with an opportunity to perform in public, in a supportive, non-competitive atmosphere. Concerts operate about once a month from November to June; there are no fees or auditions. | La Leche League Canada of Deep River | La Leche League is an organization devoted to helping women who want to breastfeed their babies. Local Leaders provide support through monthly meetings and by telephone. | Lions Club | The Lions Club offers a wide variety of activities for the community. They offer bingos year round, as well as pre-teen dances and kid's parties during the fall/winter/spring months. | Marina User Association | The M.S.U. are boating and marina users that provide feedback on the future improvements of the Deep River Marina. This group also volunteers throughout the year when needed. |
| Mount Martin Ski Club | The Mount Martin Ski Club (MMSC) maintains 12 runs including a glade run and terrain park (with jumps, rails and boxes), a T-bar and rope tow, right in the Town of Deep River. Most trails are groomed. All runs are patrolled by volunteers from the Canadian Ski Patrol. A heated chalet with snack bar offers users a place to socialize and warm up whether enjoying the hill during the day or when night skiing. | North Renfrew Long-Term Care Service Inc | The North Renfrew Long-Term Care Services host a Seniors Drop-In and a monthly Diner's Club. The activities occur year round and are for ages 60 and up. | North Renfrew Snowmobile Association | The NRSA is in charge of making and grooming the snowmobile trails in Renfrew County. They also sell permits, which are on sale soon and will increase in price in December. |
| Orienteering | A permanent course has been developed through the trails at Grouse Park. Maps can be picked up at the present time from Alistar McIvor at 584-1668. |
| Parkline Sportsman's Club | This is a conservation club that also does research and cleaning of creeks and roads. We have also added an archery program. April until October we shoot 3D targets situated on our wooded 3D range behind the clubhouse. December to April we shoot indoors at the Deep River Arena. Throughout the year we hold fun 3D tournaments. Our club meets the first Tuesday of each month and our clubhouse is located on Highway 17E next to Mr.Gas. | Potters Guild | The Potters Guild offers lessons in the fall for basic to advanced students. Professional potters are invited for workshops, and there are raku firings in the summer. Members have access to equipment and supplies. The guild fires in stonewear, which is ideal for dishes and planters, etc. Members are 18 or older unless with a family, and the cost for new members is approximately $85. | Renfrew Walking Club | The Walking Club meets each week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 9 am outside Radio Shack store. We walk until 10 am, mainly on streets but also backlanes and parkland. We usually end with coffee and chat at a downtown cafe. Joining this group is a great way to get regular aerobic exercise and to meet and make new friends. It is open to all adults. | River Recreation Improvement Assoc. (RRIA) | The R.R.I.A. is a local service organization providing facilities and maintenance at nine Ottawa River beaches in the Deep River area. Their efforts are funded through the sale of annual membership ($15.00) and also by a couple of modest corporate donations. Memberships can be purchased from any of the R.R.I.A. executive, at the Deep River Marina, or any of the three Insurance Agencies. |
| Riverfitness | Riverfitness is your one stop fitness centre with a full range of free weights and a variety of weight resistance machines and cardio equipment. | Silver Spoon Classic-Cross Country Ski-Fest | 38th Silver Spoon Ski Fest - Feb 6-7, 2010. Sat. Feb. 6 - skiers from under 5 years to Master Men and Women 60+ years and all ages in between can enter classical ski races on groomed trails. | Silver Spoon Committee | The Silver Spoon Committee organizes the annual Silver Spoon Ski Fest, which is a one-day classic ski event including 23 different categories for skiers of all ages and abilities. The event is held on the first Saturday in February and starts at the local elementary school (St. Mary's). Many of the local ski trails are used to make up the various distances offered. | Laurentian Snow Gliders | Friendly family oriented snowmobiling. Based out of a charming wood chalet, club events include potluck suppers, local and out of town tours. The season is mid Dec. to late Mar. and the ages are as young as 3 and as older as "consider it privileged info". | Society for Creative Anachronism | The Society for Creative Anachronism is a living history club focusing on the Middle Ages and Renaissance in Europe, 600-1600 AD. Activities are seasonal, ranging from food, music, and the arts to sword combat. All ages are welcome. No fees are required for attendance of meetings. | Starz in Motion Dance Studio | At Starz in Motion we offer classes in Deep River from two years of age to adult classes. We offer disciplines such as Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Hip-hop and Musical Theatre. We follow the A.D.A.P.T. syllabus (Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers) It's a fun way to get people involved in excercise, to develop co-ordination and have lasting memories of fun. Our dance season runs from September to June with a year end recital to show off our Starz. Summer programs are also available. | Deep River Players | This is a community theatre group that studies all facets of theatre. They usually perform 3 times per year. Workshops in all aspects of theatre will continue to be featured at weekly meetings of the Deep River Players. The club is open to high school students and adults who want to participate in theatre games and field trips as well as community productions. C'mon out and have some fun. | Renfrew County United Way | The United Way run an annual door to door campaign to raise funds for different charitable organizations. The campaign occurs in the fall and you can choose who the donation is given to (within the choices). A donation registers the person as a member for the year. | Upper Ottawa Valley Geology Club | The Upper Ottawa Valley Geology Club was founded in 2001. We have enthusiastic members of all ages who enjoy learning about, and searching for, rocks, minerals and fossils. We are fortunate to live in a part of Ontario that is rich in mineral resources. We hold meetings in which we discuss recent finds, bring in mineral specimens to show to other members, plan several field trips for each year(to locations such as Bancroft, Quadeville and Eganville)and enjoy presentations by guest speakers. New members are welcome to join at any time. |
| Valley Arts Council | An organization that covers all the arts in the valley, such as music, drama, visual arts, etc., and exhibit members work. They manage Festival Hall, in Pembroke. | Volleyball Club | The Deep River Volleyball Club has recreational coed volleyball from Sept. to June for people ages 16 and up. The cost is $45 for an adult and $30 fora student. Games are played Wednesday nights at Mackenzie High School. Register by October by contacting Peter Dmytrenko. |
| Weaving Guild | A group that meet in members homes on the last Thursday of every month to weave and spin. There are looms that are shared among members, and the fee to become a member is $15. For more info, contact Joan Brown at 584-4387. |
| Deep River Youth Theatre | The Deep River Youth Theatre is for anyone in Grades 5 to 8 with an interest in drama. Weekly sessions introduce participants to a variety of acting techniques in an accepting, fun atmosphere. Members have the opportunity to participate in an annual production shown to the public. Sessions are held weekly on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.email |
